Why Choose Dr. Bernard Lee
Neck Pain Overview
Neck pain is a common condition in Singapore, with about 23 percent of adults experiencing it within a 6-month period, and women being slightly more prone to developing symptoms. It is often linked to prolonged computer use, long working hours, and static sitting posture. Neck pain may arise from muscle tightness, ligament strain, or mechanical issues in the cervical spine. In some cases, conditions such as a slipped disc or arthritis may irritate nearby nerves and cause persistent discomfort.
At Singapore Paincare, our pain specialists use the Painostic approach to determine the true source of neck pain and recommend minimally invasive procedures when appropriate. This targeted care aims to relieve discomfort, restore mobility, and help patients return to daily activities with minimal disruption.
Understanding Neck Pain
Your neck contains several interconnected structures:
- Bones and joints: The cervical vertebrae and their joints support the head and allow bending, rotation, and tilting movements.
- Muscles and tendons: These control posture and movement. They keep the head aligned and help stabilise the neck during daily activities.
- Ligaments: Strong bands of tissue that connect bone to bone and provide stability to the cervical spine.
- Nerves: Cervical nerves exit the spine and supply sensation and strength to the shoulders, arms, and hands.
Because these structures work closely together, discomfort in one area can easily affect others. Pain from the jaw, head, or shoulders may spread to the neck, and neck problems can also cause symptoms in the upper back, shoulders, or arms.
The most common cause of neck pain is muscle or ligament strain, often due to poor posture or sudden injury. Wear and tear from age related changes or arthritis may also irritate the joints and surrounding nerves. Understanding which structure is involved helps guide accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment.
What Is A Red Flag For Neck Pain?
You should seek medical attention promptly if your neck pain is accompanied by:
- Fever, chills, or unexplained sweating
- Changes in vision or hearing
- Persistent pins and needles or numbness
- Weakness or numbness in the arms or legs
- Feeling light headed, dizzy, or unsteady
- Difficulty concentrating or changes in mental clarity
- New bowel or bladder control problems
These symptoms may indicate a more serious condition that requires proper evaluation.
What Are The Neck Pain Conditions We Treat?
The types of neck pain conditions we treat include:
- Neck Spasm: Sudden tightening of the neck muscles caused by poor posture, stress, or overuse, leading to stiffness and pain during movement.
- Neck Sprain: Overstretching or tearing of the ligaments in the neck, often from abrupt movements or awkward sleeping positions, resulting in soreness and limited mobility.
- Pinched Nerve: Compression or irritation of a cervical nerve, which may cause sharp pain, numbness, or tingling that travels into the shoulder or arm.
- Cervical Spondylosis: Age related wear and tear of the cervical spine, including disc degeneration and bone spur formation, which can lead to chronic neck pain, stiffness, or nerve symptoms.
Singapore Paincare offers a range of targeted treatments for neck pain, focusing on both muscle related and spine related causes. The treatment options include Myospan and Neurospan.
Myospan Injection
Myospan injections target muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints, and nerves in the neck to reduce inflammation, ease muscle tension, and calm irritated tissues. These treatments help break the pain cycle and support recovery of soft tissues surrounding the cervical spine.
- Coreflex injections
- Platelet-Rich Plasma Prolotherapy
- Intra-Articular Injections
- Myofascial Pain injections
- Peripheral Nerve Block
Neurospan
Neurospan treatments are used when neck pain is caused by nerve compression or irritation in the cervical spine, such as from slipped discs, bone spurs, or narrowing of the spinal canal. These procedures help reduce nerve sensitivity, decompress affected nerves, and improve mobility by treating the spinal source of the pain.
