Sciatica is not just another ‘tolerable’ backache. Featured in The Straits Times, Dr Bernard Lee Mun Kam, Senior Consultant Pain Specialist at Singapore Paincare Center, warns that many people initially mistake it for ordinary lower back or leg pain.
If you’re feeling numbness, tingling, burning, or discomfort that stretches from your buttocks and back of the thigh down to the calf, and walking or sitting becomes difficult, this might not just be simple muscle soreness. It could be a sign of Sciatica.
In this article, Dr Lee sheds light on how sciatica is becoming more prevalent amongst the younger working professionals. While the overall incidence is still higher in older adults, the relative increase among young adults is striking, with many working sedentary jobs, and other factors like sports injuries, poor posture, or heavy lifting.
Dr. Bernard Lee highlighted, “The good news is that in younger patients, these cases are usually very treatable and less likely to become chronic if managed early”
