Professional Biography
Dr Gopinathan Raju is a Consultant Anaesthetist and Pain Medicine Specialist based at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur. He is also a visiting Pain Specialist at tertiary hospitals in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu, and at Queen Hospital, Doha, Qatar. He obtained his MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India in 1995, and completed his postgraduate training in Anaesthesiology, obtaining his Masters in Anaesthesiology from the University of Malaya in 2003.
He subspecialised in Pain Medicine in Australia at the Professor Tess Cramond Multidisciplinary Pain Centre, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, also working at Greenslopes Private Hospital and Mater Private Hospital in Brisbane from 2008 to 2010. He was the first doctor in Malaysia to be awarded the Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FFPMANZCA) by training and examination. He also holds a Pain Medicine Fellowship (Interventions) from Axxon Pain Medicine, Australia, a Certificate of Completion for fellowship (subspecialty) training in Pain Management from the Ministry of Health, Malaysia, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Regenerative Medicine (DABRM).
His practice has a special interest in treating pain of spinal origin, using the latest interventional pain techniques under fluoroscopy and ultrasound guidance. Dr Gopi has given numerous lectures and conducted pain symposiums locally and internationally, and is actively involved in research and teaching activities to advance the field of Pain Medicine in Malaysia.
He is currently Chair of the World Institute of Regenerative Medicine, Malaysian Chapter (WIRM, USA); Immediate Past President of the Malaysian Society of Interventional Pain Practitioners (MSIPP); Vice Chairman of the Asia Pacific Regenerative Medicine and Immunotherapy Association (ARMI); and a panel expert and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) for Fondazione Menarini, Italy.
