As chronic pain and diseases become more prevalent in Singapore, the limits of a single Western or Eastern medical approach are becoming increasingly clear.

Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报 highlighted how integrating Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) could shape the future of healthcare in Singapore. In this article, Dr Bernard Lee Mun Kam, Senior Consultant Pain Specialist shared that when applied appropriately, integrative care can lead to better pain treatment outcomes, shorter treatment journeys and reduced reliance on medication. In conditions such as fibromyalgia, he observed that some patients experienced more stable outcomes after adding TCM, particularly when recurrent pain was linked to underlying body balance rather than structural issues alone.

From the TCM perspective, Physician Sue Wan noted that while Western treatments are often effective, TCM can help ease treatment-related discomfort and provide supportive, transitional care.

Integrated care is about complementarity, continuity and patient-centred outcomes. At Singapore Paincare medical group, we offer an integrated ecosystem of care, from wellness services to specialist treatments. This holistic approach is designed to support lasting mobility, comfort and quality of life.
